Hailing from Southern France and trained in musicology and electroacoustic composition, Elizabeth Vogler has carved out a unique territory of her own: singing in polyphonic ensembles, creating electroacoustic works centered on voice and drones (choir-like layers, long tones, electronics, field recordings and textures), improvising, and increasingly making experimental music that veers toward traditional folk, drawing on Bulgarian vocal techniques and the Occitan traditions of Béarn, where she grew up.
Drawing on a previous performance in the same space, she recorded Au Nom Deus Asos in the church of Lescun, a village in the Pyrénées not far from the Spanish border, playing the harmonium and singing with her powerful and deeply emotive voice, blending glossolalia and Occitan language. Imbued with the natural reverberation of the church, voice and long tones reveal ancient musical conversations across the French and Spanish borders, with unexpected, subtle pop sensibilities.
